Ursa Major Publishing seeks authors who care about storytelling at the highest level. We publish work driven by strong characters, clean and confident prose, and purposeful narratives. We partner closely with our writers and value professionalism, humility, and a genuine commitment to the craft.

Before submitting, please review the guidelines below to ensure your work is a strong fit for our list.

What We Publish

We acquire long-form speculative fiction that shows imagination, clarity, and character depth. We welcome:

  • Science fiction

  • Fantasy

  • Isekai

  • Light novels

  • GameLit

  • LitRPG

  • Other speculative subgenres that bring originality, solid world-building, and strong narrative focus

We are not seeking short fiction, poetry, erotica, fan fiction, or nonfiction.

Our Standards

Ursa Major Publishing looks for manuscripts that show:

  1. Strong storytelling
    Clear stakes, well-paced structure, and a narrative that carries the reader from start to finish.

  2. Well-developed characters
    Characters with depth, agency, and emotional credibility.

  3. Purposeful prose
    Writing that is clean, engaging, and intentional. Style should serve the story.

  4. Integrity of craft
    We value authors who revise thoughtfully, work collaboratively, and approach feedback with a growth mindset.

  5. Authenticity
    Your voice matters. We champion writers who create with honesty and respect for the reader.

Absolutely No AI-Generated Writing

We do not accept manuscripts that contain any AI-generated or AI-assisted prose. This includes work produced or edited by large language models. Submissions must represent the author’s own writing, judgment, and craft.

Any manuscript found to include AI-generated text will be rejected without review.

Submission Requirements

Please send the following materials in a single email to COMING IN 2026

1. Query Letter (in the email body)

Include:

  • Your name and contact information

  • Book title

  • Genre and subgenre

  • Complete word count

  • One to two paragraph pitch describing the story

  • A brief author bio that highlights your writing background or relevant experience

2. Synopsis (as an attachment)

One to two pages. Clearly describe the full story arc, including the ending.

3. Sample Material

Attach the first three chapters or the first 10,000 words, whichever is shorter.

4. Manuscript Status

State whether the manuscript is complete. We only consider full-length, completed works for acquisition.

File Format

Submit all attachments as .doc or .docx files. Use standard formatting:

  • Times New Roman or similar

  • 12-point font

  • Double-spaced

  • One-inch margins

  • Header with your name, book title, and word count

What We Are Not Looking For

To set clear expectations, we do not consider:

  • Incomplete manuscripts

  • AI-generated or AI-edited writing

  • Fan fiction or derivative IP

  • Excessive graphic content used for shock rather than story

  • Manuscripts that fall outside speculative fiction

  • Query-only submissions without sample material

Response Time

We review submissions carefully and respond as soon as possible. Typical response times range from eight to twelve weeks. If your manuscript is under active consideration, we may request a full manuscript or additional materials.
